Local activities

There are a wide range of activities available in the area, the local tourist office in Dunoon can advise on availability.

Walking

There are many possible walks in the area, don’t miss Pucks Glen, a magnificent forest walk immediately behind the lodge, it’s a ‘must-do’ Another great local walk is along the west side of Loch Eck from Glenbranter to the Younger Botanical Garden.

There are many other interesting Forest walks in the area, from a brief stroll to a real challenge.

Gardens

The famous Benmore Botanical Gardens is only five minutes by car towards Loch Eck or a pleasant short stroll.

Cycling and Mountain Biking

There are a variety of circuits in the Argyll Forest Park, varying from classics like the forest road circuit of Loch Eck, to state of the art single track: try Glenkin and Glenbranter.

Quadbikes

Quadmania offers a great way to explore the hills on guided quadbike treks.

Stalking

Winston Churchill Stalking organises deer stalking holidays for sportsmen from all parts of the world to take part in a unique hunting experience in one of Europe's last wilderness. This side of the business now employs two full time deerstalkers - for more information check out their web site.

Fishing

Fishing: sea, river and loch are all available locally. Dunoon Angling Club can advise.

Water Sports

The Riverside pool in Dunoon town centre is a popular choice or try the thrill of the River Rocket based at the Holy Loch Marina or check out the programme for excursions on the Waverly the world’s last sea-going paddle steamer.

Sailing

Sailing is a great way to experience the highlands and islands. Why not bring your sailing boat with you, berths can be hired during your holiday from Holy Loch Marina.

Golf

A complete list of golf courses can be found at the local tourist office in Dunoon. Cowal Golf Course Dunoon is one of the courses in the area.

Shopping

Dunoon has the usual range of shops, a cinema and a swimming pool.

Refreshments

After all this you may need some refreshment: The Coylet Inn comes well recommended; the cafe at Benmore Gardens is within walking distance or experience the welcome at the Pier Hotel in Kilmun or Chatters in Dunoon.
